Log practice and track progress

Updated 6 September 2026 · 3 min read

The Practice tab is where your child’s practice gets logged and turned into something motivating to look at — a streak, a weekly goal to aim at, and badges for the practice they put in. Logging a session takes just a couple of taps, and your teacher sees it all too.

Where it lives

In the parent portal, open Practice from the navigation (it sits between Schedule and Invoices). On a phone it’s tucked inside the More menu.

No Practice tab? Practice is one of the pages a studio grows into. If your portal shows Home, Schedule, Invoices and Messages but no Practice, your studio simply hasn't reached it yet — ask them if you'd like it.

Streaks and goals

Every session you log builds the bigger picture:

  • Current streak — your run of practice days. It’s forgiving: a single missed day is bridged so one off day won’t reset everything, but two in a row will.
  • Longest streak — your best run so far, there to beat.
  • This week — a ring that fills as the week’s practice adds up towards the goal, so you can see at a glance how close you are. There’s also a Practice over time chart of recent weeks.

These update the moment you log, so the reward is immediate — which is exactly what helps a practice habit stick.

Badges

Every practice session your child logs, and every lesson they attend, counts towards a set of twelve badges. Under the streak you’ll see the ones they’ve earned first, then the next few to aim for with how close they are — “7 of 30 sessions”. Tap any badge to read the note behind it.

BadgeEarned for
First note, Warming up, Dedicated, CenturionLogging 1, 7, 30 and 100 practice sessions
On a roll, Week strong, UnstoppableA 3-, 7- and 30-day streak
Ten hours, Fifty hours10 and 50 hours of practice in total
First lesson, Ten lessons, Quarter centuryAttending 1, 10 and 25 lessons

When a badge lands, or the streak reaches a milestone like 3, 7 or 30 days, the portal celebrates on the spot — a quick moment after Log it, and Lovely! closes it. A streak milestone also arrives as a notification on any phone where you’ve allowed them from the LessonLoop app, so a parent who wasn’t the one logging still gets to see it.

Your teacher sees the same streak and badges on your child’s practice page in their own app, and can send a Well done — it arrives as feedback under the practice log. Badges are only ever seen by your family and your studio’s team: nothing is public, nothing is compared between pupils, and there is no leaderboard.

Streak but no badges? Badges are part of the studio's plan. If your Practice tab shows the streak and the weekly ring but no badges, your studio hasn't switched them on yet — ask them if you'd like them.

Log a practice session

Logging is deliberately quick. Under Log today’s practice:

  1. Pick how long — tap one of the duration buttons (15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes).
  2. Tag what they practised (optional) — if your teacher has set assignments, a “What are they practising?” picker appears: choose one of them, or leave it on Free practice.
  3. Add a note (optional) — what they worked on, or how it went.
  4. Log it — that’s it. The session is saved against today (with the assignment shown on it if you tagged one).

If you have more than one child in the studio, choose which child you’re logging for at the top of the page. When your teacher has set practice assignments, they appear under What to practise at the top of the tab, so you always know what to focus on.

Good to know Further down the page you'll also see What you're working on — the pieces your teacher has set, with how far along each one is. It's there to look at; it updates as your teacher and your practice move things along.
